An Unexpected Christmas Gift

I know this is really weird, but I just couldn't think of anything to write... So, I wrote randomness about whatever I thought of, I guess? I'm not really sure exactly, if you know what I mean... I am sure that Julia and Liz understand what I am saying, though... ;)

The little girl sits up in her bed and notices an odd glowing coming from her closet. "Mommy and Daddy always told me not to be afraid to look in the closet. But maybe I should wake them up to come in their with me..." She swings her legs over the side of the bed and hops down to the floor, holding her stuffed bunny in her arms.

She slowly walks over to the closet, knowing that there is something - whether good or bad - that awaits her from the other side of the door. "Marie..." She stops dead in her tracks and inhales sharlpy, not understanding where her name was being called from. "It's me... I am in the closet, my dear." Marie stares straight ahead, confused with how the glowing behind her door knows her name.

She begins to shake and drops her bunny, running over to the lightswitch. "Mommy!! Daddy!!" Marie's parents come rushing in to her room and in an instant, the father's arms are wrapped around a crying Marie. Her mother kneels down in front of her, but Marie is unable to form the words to tell her parents about the scary glowing light coming from her closet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It has been ten years since the incident with the closet, and Marie and her family have been living a wonderful life. It is Christmas now, and Marie has the strangest feeling that this Christmas is going to be the best Christmas she has ever had.

"Mom, do you need any help with the baking?" Tessa, Marie's mother, shakes her head and goes back to her cooking, a smile spreading across her face. I wonder what that was about... Mom normally accepts any offer I give to her. Hm... Marie shrugs and walks into the living room, draping a blanket over her sleeping father.

"George, honey, it is time for dinner!! Get in here so we can have some family time!!" Tessa appears in the doorway with a dishrag still in her hand while Marie helps George clean up the bag of chips that he spilled all over the floor. "Dear, I am going to pretend that I haven't seen the chips that are strewn about the floor and I am really hoping that all of it will be cleaned up by the time I do come back in. And next time, hun, please don't spoil your appetite by eating early."

"Alright, dear. I love you."

"I love you too." Marie smiles as she sees how happy her parents are. I hope I get married to someone like Dad and we live a happy life filled with love like Mom and Dad do... Marie sighs and hears a knock at the door.

"Were we expecting anyone, Dad?" Marie looks at her father and he smiles at her, simply shaking his head. Again with the smiling? What are they so deviously happy about, I wonder... She walks over to the door and opens it, only to see the most handsome man she has ever seen before.

The stranger takes her hand in his and presses a gentle kiss to it, staring into her eyes the whole time. "Good evening, love. I came to ask you a question." The young man gets down on one knee and pulls out a little black box, opening it to reveal a small ring studded with diamonds. "Will you marry me?"

"Um... Give me a minute." Marie closes the door in the man's face and runs into the kitchen. "Some guy just asked me to marry him!!" Tessa and George look at each other and smile, the two of them nodding at each other. Tessa turns to face Marie and she opens her mouth.

"That boy is the glow that was in your closet when you were younger... He is your guardian angel and he has come to marry you. We were informed of this a little while ago, actually..." Marie nods slowly and walks back to the door, taking a deep breath before she opens it.

"Yes, I will marry you, Shane." Almost as though she has known him her whole life and that they were meant to be together, the words flow out of her mouth as easily as she has ever said anything in her whole life. Tears stream down her face as Shane brushes his lips over hers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both Shane and Marie were as happy as they could be. And neither of them thought of anyone else or loved anyone quite as much as they loved each other. They both understood how weird their engagement was and how their relationship started, but they didn't care even though they knew how unrealistic the whole thing was.
